Something Positive for Cody

Conquering Camp

Youth Recreation Center

MCH is excited to re-open the Arant recreation center this fall! SCU Underwriters generously gave $5,000 which helped to sponsor TVs, game consoles, chairs, pub table sets, an air hockey table, and more. SCU then spent a day volunteering setting up all of the items purchased.

This project was brought to completion through several other volunteer groups coming together. A big thank you goes out to Hernando UMC volunteers who helped prepare the building for all the renovations. Madison United Methodist Men’s Club also played a big role by spending two Saturdays painting the walls. Plus, Kim Davis and Scott Street built two walls in order to give more individualized spaces for the youth.

We’re beyond grateful for the many people who dedicated their time to such a special project. It’s heartwarming to watch what used to be a plain space transform into an area where any teenager would want to hang out. MCH volunteers are the BEST!

Methodist Children’s Home Minute

For over 122 years, the Methodist Children’s Homes has cared for over 11,000 children. The Methodist Children’s Homes believes that every child deserves to grow up in a place where they are safe and nurtured with compassion. At MCH abused and neglected children are given a safe place in which they can heal and thrive through provision, guidance and counseling. MCH seeks to bring restoration to children and youth who have been neglected or abused. By the end of their time with MCH they hope to see that each child finds reconciliation with their biological families, love within an adoptive family or success as a productive, independent adult. MCH does this by offering safe, structured and supportive home environments, life skills training and therapeutic services. You can heal with your prayers, resources and time.

Admissions Criteria

Referral Process

Methodist Children’s Home accepts residents into a Therapeutic Group Home or a Therapeutic Foster Home. All referrals must go through the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services Placement Division. Referrals are initiated by a “Residential Service Application”. These referrals are then reviewed by the Admissions Coordinator, Director of Clinical Services, Director of Foster Care, and Director of Residential Services to assess if we can meet the needs of the youth.

Children in Therapeutic Residential Care are given academic support, preparation for living independently, therapeutic and psychiatric support, spiritual guidance, life skills training and recreational opportunities.

This program is specifically designed for young men and women ages 15 to 21. Its goal is to ease the transition from high school to college or to the workforce by providing instruction in budgeting, household management and job skills so that they can live independently as responsible adults.

Independent Residential Living Program

This program helps transition our kids from high school to college or the work force. Our independent living program is designed for females between the ages of 16 to 21. Our Story

Our Story

A Mission of Hope

Through Jesus Christ, Methodist Children’s Homes brings hope and healing to hurting children in Mississippi.

Methodist Children’s Homes seeks to bring restoration to children and youth who have been neglected or abused. By the end of their time with us, we hope to see that they find reconciliation with their biological families, love within an adoptive family or success as a productive, independent individual.

A Lasting Legacy

Methodist Children’s Homes has been providing care and love for children and families in Mississippi since 1896. Originally an orphanage, MCH has cared for more than 11,000 children for over a century. We have grown from our original location in Water Valley to multiple homes across the state, and our primary campus is now in Jackson. The legacy of Methodist Children’s Homes has always been that of Christ-centered, generous love — something that will never change.

Our Core Values are:

Integrity

Do what is right, honest, and respectful regardless of the situation.

Compassion

Be kind and loving in all interactions.

Service

Commit to helping those we lead and those we follow.

Safety

Create an environment that promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

Teamwork

Work together in a way that maximizes accountability, stewardship, and communication.

Methodist Children’s Homes is licensed by the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services and the Mississippi Department of Mental Health.

Pray

Pray
Isaiah 1:17: Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

Pray for the Children at the home

Pray for the awareness, coupled with the joy that comes from fulfilling God’s mandates to care for the fatherless.

Pray that more families will open their homes and hearts as foster parents.

Pray that our staff and teachers continue to prepare and equip our children educationally to be the best that they can be.

Pray for each one of our children as they overcome past abuse and help them combat low self-esteem, emotional pain, self-harm, fears, doubt and anger.

Pray for our children’s families especially, that they will seek reconciliation and reunification.

Pray that God puts people in the family members’ path to share Christ with them.

Pray that God uses the church’s bible studies and chapels to bring about new salvations and discipleship.

Pray specifically for our children and their immediate sphere of influence.

Pray for each one of our children’s spiritual growth.

Pray for our children’s families as they seek reconciliation or deal with the separation.

Pray for the staff at the Methodist Children’s Homes

Pray that the Lord will continue to give us His vision for our children and our ministry.

Pray that our staff will be intentional with sharing Christ with our children.

Pray for our staff and their responsibility as role models to our children.

Pray for wisdom for our leadership team as they make decisions that affect our children.

Pray that God will continue to provide financially for the Methodist Children’s Homes.

Pray for wisdom of our staff as they care for each one of our children.

Pray that our staff is reminded and renewed with the mission of why we minister to our children.
