Javaris “Mind over Matter”

When Javaris, a native of Chicago, IL, promised his grandmother that he would graduate from high school, he had every intentions of doing just that. So, in May when his name was called to come and receive his diploma, he knew that she was smiling down from heaven.

When Javaris, a native of Chicago, IL, promised his grandmother that he would graduate from high school, he had every intention of doing just that. So, in May when his name was called to come and receive his diploma, he knew that she was smiling down from heaven.

A graduate of Clinton High School, Javaris loves history and was selected VIP from a group of his teachers. In August, he will be attending Jackson State University, majoring in computer engineering. “I am planning on staying for eight years, so that I can get my masters too.” With a life motto of “Mind over Matter,” there is no doubt that he can accomplish his goal.

Jarvaris came to the Methodist Children’s Homes in April 2013. His biggest inspiration has been Mr. Devon Loggins, the Chief Operations Officer. “He has been like a God Father to me, he is always encouraging me to do better and he really inspired me to finish school.” Jarvaris also likes the fact that he and Mr. Loggins share a common interest –the Chicago Bulls!

As a role model for the younger boys, the advice that he would give them is to stay in school and graduate. “It will help you in the long run, and if people see that you are helping yourself, then they will help you too.”

There is no doubt that the moment Javaris steps foot on Jackson State’s campus, as an honor Freshmen, his grandmother will once again be smiling down from heaven.
